My Wonderful Day Trip to Sausalito
On February 22nd, I visited Sausalito for the first time with my friend! It was a beautiful sunny day to visit such a peaceful city. For all the exchange students in SF State and future students, I would like to tell how my visit to a must-go city in Sausalito was and what is recommended to do there!
How to go to Sausalito.
First, let me tell you several ways to go to Sausalito. It takes about an hour from the university by train and buses, so this would be the best option for people who want to save their budget. Since me and my friend had to leave school after taking classes, we decided to take Uber, and it only took thirty minutes, so for those who want to save their time, I strongly recommend driving or taking a taxi. I also recommend this way because we were able to pass through the Golden Gate Bridge, which was awesome on such a nice day! You could see the marvelous ocean and beautiful blue sky. Of course, in Sausalito, you will get to see a wonderful view of the sea. Plus, if you go there on a clear sunny day, this is where you can get a picture to remember for life! My friend and I were just sitting in front of the bay for several minutes, enjoying the scenery and peaceful breeze. Looking at the wide ocean, I was able to feel very fresh and free! Since Sausalito is not that far from our school, for those who feel like a short trip, Sausalito is the perfect place to satisfy your need to go out somewhere and also get back easily. Just grab some coffee or ice cream at one of the bunch of stores around the bay and chill out for some minutes!
There’s No Perfect Plan for Sausalito
To be honest, we didn’t plan anything to do in Sausalito, but it actually turned out that “no plan is the perfect plan”! What we did was just walking around the streets with no map or information. When we saw a bench in front of a random store, we sat down for some minutes and moved, then took pictures in the middle of the road, and walked right in front of the bay. Just repeating these random actions was enough for us to have so much fun. Since Sausalito has a lot of different alleys reaching to the sea, we enjoyed exploring the alleys and having our own trip without any recommended routes or plans! What I loved most about Sausalito was the peaceful atmosphere all around the city. It was quiet and peaceful anywhere we went!
Furthermore, Sausalito was also a nice place to look around for souvenirs for such shopaholics like us! There were various shops selling clothes with “San Francisco” or “Sausalito” printed. Also, a bunch of pretty magnets, postcards, stickers, and so much more. I got a cute stuffed toy Golden Gate Bridge for my dog in Korea, and my friend got postcards and stickers of Sausalito.
Fancy Dinner Right in Front of the Sea
For dinner, we reserved a restaurant called “Barrel House Tavern” to have a fancy dinner watching the sunset over the bay. This was the only thing we planned for our trip to Sausalito, and it was GREAT! We made a reservation to make sure we get the balcony seat, and I recommend you to also reserve before going there since it is a very popular restaurant with crowded people. They have various dishes including local seafood, small plates matching drinks, soup, salad, risotto, sandwich, burger, and many more. We ordered Calamari Fritti, Tartare Tacos, Caribbean Spiced Shrimp Risotto, and drinks. I’m not going to lie about the price. It was expensive, but it deserves such a beautiful view, taste, and nice service! We were so full after the meal with such delicious dishes and also with the gorgeous bay view.
For a Perfect Finish, Take the Ferry
On the way back, we took a ferry to the Ferry Building, and then took a train to school. I think this ferry ride was what made my trip to Sausalito an unforgettable memory. We took a ferry at 6:35 pm to see the night view of San Francisco in the middle of the bay. As you can see in the picture, it was a truly amazing experience of watching the Golden Gate Bridge, tall towers in downtown San Francisco, and the Ferry Building in the night. I highly recommend everyone to take the ferry at the latest available time to enjoy the great scenery! It only took about 30 minutes to get to the Ferry Building, and it also had heaters on the top of the ferry, so it wasn’t cold to stay outside of the ship and look around the view.
Ending This Blog...
At first, I didn’t expect much for Sausalito, but I enjoyed it so much. As I mentioned above, me and my friend didn’t have a whole day for the trip, but it was enough. It was an awesome experience to visit such a lovely peaceful city. What I also enjoyed was watching the crowded tall towers in downtown San Francisco over the bay. It was very impressive to see and feel how San Francisco has both a busy city and calm nature at the same time. To sum up, for those who want to visit Sausalito, I’ll give you some tips! First, to save time and also see the Golden Gate Bridge, drive a car or take Uber when going to Sausalito. Second, just grab some snacks and chill out watching the bay and beautiful sky. Third, don’t plan much. Look around and walk around the town freely. (Bring sunglasses!) Fourth, have dinner watching the sea and sunset. Finally, take the ferry when the sun goes down and enjoy the marvelous night view. Thank you for reading my blog, and I hope to tell you other nice experiences in SF State and San Francisco!
